The wife and I put out weekly videos focused on reviewing record cleaning gear and hopefully providing sound advice for getting the best out various record-cleaning procedures. But this week, we tried something a bit different. Dusting the hifi!

Yea, I can be clean freak at times...

Hope you enjoy!

I don't remember the name for it but one day I could not find it anymore in any stores like Shop-Right and Wegman's

Gone now, but it worked better for removing surface dust than Swiffer

it dusts itself very effectively -- oh, wait, you mean "remove dust"?! ;), posted on April 27, 2024 at 05:36:31

That is a challenge!
When I actually manage to do it, I use a microfiber cloth. Works pretty well but multiple cloths required.

all the best,

Yeah, they're great. Very fine and soft - especially useful on those easily scratched plastic turntable dust covers. For years, I used a feather duster, which simply made the dust go airborne for it to land somewhere; so then, I added the handheld vacuum in the other hand. Then, my girlfriend got a handheld Swiffer, and it works well without also using a handheld vacuum, although it does take a few passes (gosh, the horror!). So, now, which one I use just depends on my mood at the moment. (The tape deck is under a plastic bag, and the electronics are in a cabinet.)

I can afford one since I don't buy cable lifters.

Swiffer and Microfiber towels

Yea, the dust does a great job all on it's own.

Modern people need special instruction on dusting, eh?

No, but for those that want to do the best job possible, tips help, at least for me. I hadn't thought to use cotton gloves until a mate recommended them. Glad he did, so I wanted to share the advice.

I am a clean freak also.
Vacuum first before using any type of cleaning cloth.
Why?
Because the more dust and dirt you vacuum up before using a cloth
will the longer the cloth can used before needing to either be
cleaned or washed.
Boars hair brush.
They get into places and dislodge dust that can be easily vacuumed away.
ex. There are less expensive brushes available.
Now a biggie.
Use a leaf blower inside your home.
Blow the dust and dirt out from under the fridge, stove.
From inside closets and under furniture.
Record cabinets.
Use blower in one hand and the hose from the vacuum in the other.
Vacuum the dust out of the air.
The first time will be messy.
Keep doing it and the mess will be come less.
Wait until you see what's waiting for you in your closet's.
I use the smallest RYOBI blower.
Don't aim the blower at your speakers.
OH, don't forget to blow out your electronics.
The first time I blew out the cable box startling.
So much dust inside those electronic boxes.

He always said people would catch on to his cleaning approach.
